Hi Y'all,
Ready to finally commit to writing your story? I've been leading Memoir Writing Workshops for around 200 years now. We have a great time. Some folks join to write their way through personal crises and trauma as they work to heal. Some folks join to work on memoirs-- a number of attendees have completed books. Some come for the camaraderie-- this is a truly remarkable group of humans-- loving, supportive, and attentive. Some folks aren't exactly sure why they are signing up, they just feel the call to visit the power of putting words on the page. Whatever your reason, you are welcome!
Workshops are held on Wednesdays from 11 am - 1 pm at the Tiny T Ranch in Garfield, TX, about twenty minutes from South Austin, and on Thursdays from 7 pm - 9 pm at a studio in The Canopy community, on Springdale Road in East Austin.
Cost is $160 per six-week session. This entitles you to attend as many of the sessions as you wish-- up to twelve total across the W & Th sessions. I do allow past workshop attendees the option to drop-in when space permits, but ask that you plan on dropping in to at least four sessions. Drop-in cost is $30 per session.
A typical session includes twenty minutes of conversation about the state of the art of publishing, memoir writing, and any writing challenges and triumphs attendees wish to share. The rest of the time is used for sharing writing and receiving feedback.
My credentials: I'm the author of eight books, with my ninth one coming right up. I was voted Best Writer in Austin 2006 by readers of the Austin Chronicle. I was voted best Nonfiction Writer/Memoirist in 2016 and 2017 by readers of the Austin Chronicle. More importantly, I love creating a safe space and giving folks permission to tell their stories.
Here are some good words about the workshop from past attendees.
Below are the dates for the next series. I sure hope you can join us. If you want to sign up, just email me at spikegillespie@gmail.com and I'll send you all the details.
